After spending more than a decade working for a much larger consulting firm, Lou DeWolff and Tim Boberg founded DB&A in 1987. The inspiration for this new company was their joint realization that clients did not receive all of the benefits they had been promised by consulting firms - yet they were still expected to pay the consultant's full fee.
This inequitable situation convinced both men that a different kind of consulting company was needed, one that was smaller, more results-oriented, and could guarantee specific, measurable improvements from its proposals. The new firm would be guided by two important principles:

- Stand behind commitments to clients through a true guarantee
This was a radical concept at the time, since few other consultancies provided written guarantees based on results; yet to Lou and Tim, it seemed like the natural way for a consulting firm to operate.
In the years since, DB&A has achieved phenomenal growth based on the ability to consistently deliver savings promised to clients. In fact, approximately 70 percent of our revenues have traditionally come from repeat or referral work from existing clients.
The DB&A Guarantee is more than a financial promise - it is a mutual commitment to work toward a predetermined set of goals. Through this written contract, we guarantee specific performance improvements. As a client, you agree to follow our recommendations - and potentially make tough choices - in order to meet these benchmarks. Most of our clients are overwhelmed by the success of their projects, as we typically exceed our goals by 50 percent.
With both parties vested in the outcome and with our mutually attainable goals established, the long-term engagement begins. If we don't meet our goals by the end of our set timeline, we'll either keep working until we do or refund fees based on the proposed return on investment.
